For Immediate Release
Good Egg Productions announces that tickets for Destiny’s Birthright, the first of its Local Playwright Readings produced with Scratch Studio, are now on sale.
Santa Cruz, CA, 10/16/2026
Kicking off the continuation of its first season on 11/21 at 7pm, Destiny’s Birthright is the first of Good Egg Productions’ Local Playwrights Reading Series co-produced with Scratch Studio. Written by Santa Cruz local Isaac Ludington, Destiny’s Birthright is the story of the worst fan-fiction ever written, and the woman who’s desperately trying to make sure nobody finds out she wrote it.
Destiny’s Birthright is a play steeped in internet culture. Isaac Ludington has written a play for anyone who knows the pleasure of sharing your creations online, and the deep shame that can come when the online world starts to comment on it. Before TikTok, Facebook, and X, the internet was a world of forums, instant messenger servers, and fan-fiction. Destiny’s Birthright is a love poem, and a frank look at our increasing connected reality that will speak to anyone who has come of age in the world of computers.
“Identifying and growing local talent is core to Good Egg’s mission to grow, develop and support the local Santa Cruz theatre community,” said Good Egg co-founder Sarah K. Michael, “...and Isaac has written a piece that feels vibrant, alive and remarkably of this moment.”
Later in the season, Good Egg will also be offering two additional staged readings of works by local playwrights over the course of winter 2026 to summer 2027. Good Egg is excited to stage Andrea L. Hart’s Harvester in January 2027, and a play to be announced by Kathy Chetkovich in May 2027.
Good Egg Productions was founded in 2025 with the intention to put on modern works with the goal of keeping in conversation with theater that speaks to contemporary audiences. Its first production Matt & Ben by multi-hyphenate artist Mindy Kaling and prolific playwright Brenda Withers was a tremendously successful first outing for a new theatre collective looking to engage Santa Cruz’s adult audiences.
Tickets are available now with a suggested $10 donation. Today, audiences can go to goodeggsantacruz.com or follow on instagram @goodeggsantacruz for production updates, announcements, and more. Good Egg Productions welcomes any media inquiries including newspaper, social media, podcast, or other, and would be excited to discuss any opportunities for coverage and engagement.
